All About Scabs (My Body Science Series) (My Body Science Series)
By Amanda Mayer Stinchecum, Genichiro Yagyu
see related

I frequently take showers in the dark.

I like turning off the lights and leaving the bathroom door open so that natural light floods in.
No matter that I can't really see what I'm doing, showering isn't really that complicated.

My legs still haven't completely healed from the poison ivy and I have scabs and scraps all
over them.  I hadn't shaved since I got poison over three weeks ago, so I decided that
I would try and just go slowly over the scabs.  Right leg went nicely, now to the left.
Something felt weird as the razor traveled up my leg, unusually rough but no cause for alarm.
I wasn't bleeding so I felt pretty proud of myself and went with my shower.

A bit later, as I was rinsing the soap off of my body I reached down to feel my legs to make sure
I hadn't missed any spots.  Much to my horror I felt a flap of skin hanging off my left leg!  I was
freaking out, thinking I had opened up a huge scab and was going to have to peel this thing off
the rest of the way.  I mustered up some courage, ready to peel fast and get it over with.
1...2...3...RIP!

"Wow, that didn't hurt at all!  And that certainly didn't feel like skin or scab," I thought.  I
brought my hand up close to my face to see what I had peeled off, only to remember that
I had placed a bandaid on my left leg last night to cover the huge scab.  I held in my hand that
very bandaid.  Relief!

By Nigella Lawson

I am pretty domestic, but I am not even close to being Cherry Menlove.

My friend Phil posted a link to her site on facebook or twitter or some such and anyhow
I looked around and geez.  I felt inspired and lame all at the same time.

Sometimes I am reminded that Lyla have different growing up experiences

Yesterday in the car:

Lyla: I told Dad that when mom and dad get too old for me to take care that I
will move in with you and Daniel.
Clayre: When will that be?
Lyla: Probably when I'm 12.  Then when you and Daniel get too old for me to
take care of I will move in with Amy and when she's too old I will move in with
Joel and when he gets too old I will probably be old enough to get an apartment
and live on my own.
Clayre: How old will you be when that happens?
Lyla: Probably your age.

Oh man.

Chicago Marathon Round Dos!

Hey all!  I am doing it again.  Yep.  And I am dragging other crazy people along with me!

Tonight is our second "group run" for pretraining.  We meet up at the church Tuesdays and
Saturdays at 8pm and 8 am respectively.  We really want you to join us.  All different levels
and paces etc. welcome!

Anywho we are running for World Vision to raise money for those affected by the AIDS/HIV
crisis in Africa.  The money will build water wells, build up agriculture, provide medicine and
food etc.  Our goal is to raise a whopping EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS!

YIKES!  That's a lot of money.  It's kind of frightening but we are confident that we'll get there!

These are the cool people who you really should encourage and pat on the back over the next several
months:
Greg Gantt
Ashley Phelan
Michael Overton
Jeff Strome
Jason Peoples
Will Riggs
Daniel Turner

It's hard work to train for a marathon and I know that we will need your support!

We will be sending out group emails from a shared email account updating you on our progress with
training and fundraising!  I know Michael will be blogging about it as well so please read!

If you want to receive updates from us by email, leave me a comment and I will get your email
address from you!

If you want to donate, hop on over to http://www.firstgiving.com/hccteamworldvision
